Not Reading The Entire Recipe First

Not reading the recipe before diving in is one of the most common mistakes there are. People are guilty of scrolling through the first few lines of a recipe and they assume that they read the whole thing only to find that they wind up missing an important step or ingredient.  As such, they’re sent into a panic spilling ingredients on their gorgeous wood floor

Reading the entire recipe from beginning to end will ensure that you won’t miss important steps or ingredients that could affect the overall success of your dish. Remember, the most successful recipes are the ones that you’re familiar with.   The more that you can familiarize yourself with something before you attempt to do it the better it will come out.

Not Taking Cooking Time into Consideration

We’ve all seen those cooking shows that require someone to finish something incredibly complex in a short period of time.  Don’t be the guy that tries to cook a Thanksgiving turkey in 30 minutes. Make sure that you time your recipe properly so that you can anticipate when it needs to be done.

Overcooking Ingredients

All too often, people cook ingredients far too long, which can detract from their overall flavor. some ingredients, cook very quickly. So it’s important to know which ingredients you need to add to your recipe last. Items like meat take longer to cook, while vegetables and spices can be added to your pan closer to the end. Many people don’t realize that all it takes are a few seconds to burn certain ingredients beyond repair.

Oversalting

Many people think of salt as the only spice that can be used. The truth is, that this is a novice mistake. There are all sorts of spices to work with, and in some cases, you may think that salt is the answer to the lack of flavor in your dish, however, a simple dash of something acidic may just do the trick. Get to know all of the different spices and options for adding an extra something to your dish. Salt isn’t the only option out there.

Not Cleaning as You Go

Let’s face it, one of the worst parts about cooking is doing the dishes. However, you can lessen your load if you clean as you go. Letting everything pile up as you cook your recipe can result in a bigger job that takes longer to finish. Little by little makes it feel like there’s less to clean overall.
